Academy and Pulitzer Prize Winner Horton Foote, who wrote the screenplay for "To Kill a Mockingbird," will join Hartford Stage artistic director Michael Wilson for a discussion of Harper Lee’s novel and its journey to the big screen, as well as his own work in theatre, television and film.

Movie Screening and Discussion- To Kill a Mockingbird
Location: Kent Memorial Library, Suffield, CT 06078
The Mockingbird Screening will start with a short pre-movie discussion by movie buff, Carl Casinghino. He will be discussing all four movies and their relationships to each other. Mr Casinghino, a Suffield High School Teacher, wrote his senior thesis at Princeton University on the films of Marcel Carn?, including the classic "Le Jour se L?ve," which was a French precursor to American film noir. Later, he studied at NYU's Graduate-Film program, where he directed award-winning short films, and he also served on camera and sound crews for a number of shorts and feature films. Carl initiated the Film and Video program at Suffield High School in 1999, and he is currently working on a textbook for secondary school motion picture production and studies.
All movies will start at 6:30 pm except for March 17th. The talk on March 17th will begin at 7 with the movie following.

The film tells the story of Atticus Finch, a Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape. Set during the Great Depression, the story explores themes of bigotry, ignorance, tolerance and justice. The film was directed by Robert Mulligan and the screenplay was written by Horton Foote. Peck and Foote both won Academy Awards, as did the set designers. MCC Professor Bob Kagan will host and facilitate a discussion of this classic film.
