Organizational Description: The mission of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation is to support the Public Library and to increase the awareness and use of it through financial support and programmatic efforts. The Library Foundation supports a wide range of San Antonio Public Library programs targeted to all ages, including new programming to meet the growing and changing needs of the community. For more than 100 years, the San Antonio Public Library has been a vital center for free learning, knowledge, communication, and culture for all San Antonians. With a world-class central library, 23 branch libraries, and outstanding online resources, the San Antonio Public Library is as close as around the corner or the nearest computer.
Program Description: The San Antonio Public Library will celebrate the reading of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird by sponsoring book discussions, dramatic live readings, a photography exhibition, lectures, movie screenings, and other cultural events for all ages. Schools and community organizations will partner with the library to support a community sharing the common bond of reading and discussing the same book at the same time. Events will take place in various locations throughout San Antonio during March and April 2008.
