Organizational Description: The Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. (HCWDC), an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), is a private, nonprofit organization that funds and conducts humanities-based cultural and educational programs for all Washingtonians in its eight wards. Program Description: Washington, D.C. is reading F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby for D.C.'s Big Read, taking place April 24–May 24, 2008. The month will be one big jazz age event taken right out of the pages of the book. Get to know Washington, D.C. at our "speak easy" discussions, performances, heritage tours, films, dances, and more. The presenters, the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, invite you to be part of the story.
