Organizational Description: Dedicated in 1917, the Caldwell Public Library (CPL) is an Andrew Carnegie Library, located across from Grover Cleveland’s Birthplace Memorial in Caldwell, New Jersey. Through personal service and innovative programs, Library Director, Karen Kleppe Lembo, teams with employees, teen assistants, volunteers, and a nine-member Board of Trustees to offer patrons a wide array of programs for all ages. CPL hosts Toddler Time, Spanish Family Fun Night, Nutrition4Life, and the Early Saturday Morning Book Club. CPL provides service to the community six days a week, and nearly 7,500 children and adults benefit from the library’s various programs each year.

Program Description: The Caldwell Public Library is celebrating its 90th anniversary and incorporating The Big Read selection—Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence—into many of the festivities. Events (spanning September through November 2007) include a presence at the annual Caldwell Street Fair, a library rededication ceremony, unveiling an exhibit of local historic photographs, hosting a public read, and a gala supported by Mayor Susan Gartland and the town council. Local schools will incorporate Wharton’s classic into fall curriculum, while community book clubs read and discuss the novel, and view Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film.
