Teens, grades 6-12, are invited to participate in the Ctrl+Alt+Del Poster Contest. Submit science fiction posters in the style of Fahrenheit 451 depicting what technology will be like in the future or what technology they’d like to delete from history. The Stop, Drop and Read! Kick-off extravaganza will include a pet parade, a Sparky (Irving Fire Department’s mascot) look-alike contest, a visit from a fire truck, robot demonstrations, and a chili cook-off, as well as games and activities for all ages. Children can pick up the Be Safe, Be Smart Coloring Activity Sheet at any library location and submit their artistic take on the Sparky coloring sheet to be displayed at the libraries throughout the month. Children will receive a Big Read pencil when a Sparky coloring sheet is submitted. Submissions will be accepted Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.
