Come spend the day at the picturesque Fort Hinter Mansion and Park. Work with professional photographers to create your own photography inspired by the poetry of Robinson Jeffers. Photos will be on display in the Fort Hunter Historic barn gallery. Awards will be given to the top 3 photographs.

Keynote Address

Join us for a look at the uses of nature in Robinson Jeffers' poetry. Matthew Roth, author and English Professor at Messiah College, will be presenting a background on Robinson Jeffers focusing on his use of nature in poetry. Roth's first book of poetry, Bird Silence, was published by the Woodley Press in 2009. His poems have been published in many national journals, including Verse, American Literary Review, Antioch Review, and 32 Poems. He has also published a number of frequently cited articles on Vladimir Nabokov’s novel, Pale Fire.

Join Jump Street in welcoming author and award-winning poet, Taylor Mali, to the Capital Region for an afternoon of spoken word at the Grace Milliman Pollock Performing Arts Center. Chippy the Chipmunk visits the library

Kathy Miller, author of Chippy the Chipmunk is a teacher, professional cellist, and nature photographer. She spent two years photographing and observing Chippy in her garden. That series of photographs inspired this book. Kathy will be visiting the library to speak to young children about her book, tying in themes of nature and poetry that are found in Jeffers' book. This event is a great way to involve young readers in this year's Big Read.

The Jeffers Project

--a performance piece of poetry-- a dialogue between Jeffers and Thiaw Come and eavesdrop on a dialogue between contemporary poet, Maria James-Thiaw and modern, albeit, deceased poet Robinson Jeffers via the actor, Steven Anderson. Journey with the poets through three vignettes where they use their words to examine their need to observe and honor, to declare riotous works of politics and to explode their passions at all costs.
